About

Hi, my name is Sasheena and I’m still looking… at life. Responding, recording, engaging, becoming and always growing. What you see here is just who I am now. There is a swift energy guiding me and it’s way bigger than I can fathom. I only know this because I let it take me on an amazing creative journey beginning in 2018 and reaching its pinnacle in 2020, my last year of college as a painting major at Sonoma State University.

My favorite way to paint is with my hands, not with a brush. Although I can still enjoy a quiet, meditative painting with brushes and I often do practice with brushes, my favorite is when it feels like a fast, epic adventure! With pure one-on-one contact with the paint and the surface and full-on lizard brain activation! To get to that point is in itself a feat and like I said above, that swift energy that comes during that time is unpredictable, perhaps even unwarranted. But it came to me and I think I really miss it. If patterns like this exist it will happen again. Where I make the moves, finish the paintings, and have a sense of satisfaction afterwards. All the while I’m making up stories for my paintings and giving them names. Working in series allows this to develop. I don’t use solvents or chemicals (besides paint) with oil paint, just walnut oil and soap for washing.

Nowadays I practice drawing as much as I can in between taking care of myself, husband and two daughters. We also manage a cafe where I practice recipe development for our baked goods and learn even more about myself through my interactions with customers, friends, and all the cool local ‘regulars’ at the cafe.

You can find me in person at my open studios every first Saturday of the month!
